Deer Spirit

A few years ago, before we began this journey of ours, we were driving at night along the main road from Oxfordshire to Gloucester, when Julie had a sudden thought: ‘Be careful driving, look out for deer on the road.’

About half an hour later, we saw a beautiful female roe deer, lying injured in the road, unable to move. We stopped the car, got out and started directing the traffic around the animal. Others stopped, got out and tried to help us keep her safe.

Sadly, the deer’s injuries were too severe, and we were unable to save her. But so touched were we by her bravery and her gentleness and beauty and the message she had sent to us, that we decided to name our company after her. Ever since, the deer, has been our spirit animal – guiding us and helping us.

Look online, and you’ll find many different interpretations of what the deer means as a spirit guide or power animal. A while ago, we interviewed expert Stephen Farmer, for Kindred Spirit Magazine. This is what he has to say about the deer.

‘Deer: Pathfinder -trust your instincts to guide you through this situation.’

‘It’s a big forest out there, and I’m sure you feel a little lost sometimes. Let me tell you, however, that the path is well marked even if you can’t always make it out at any given moment. Come to your senses, literally, and stop thinking so much about it or at least stop trying to figure out what to do or which way you go by analysis and cognition.

Use your eyes, ears, and nose to gather information. The drop your awareness into your gut which is the seat of your instinctual self. Your senses are meant to register information in a way that can be felt in the body, which is your most reliable compass. The mind is useful, don’t get me wrong, but it is much of overrated, and all those random or obsessive thoughts can get in the way of pure awareness. Pure awareness means without preconceived notions, anxiety, or anticipation. Close your eyes, breathe deeply and easily, clear your mind, and you’ll know what to do to find your way through.

Additional associations gentleness, cunning, grace, purity.
